Notes

Short field notes before they become full guides.

Notes are the editorial lane: quick observations, tool digests, build logs, and useful fragments that are too specific for the homepage but not yet packaged as guides.

Build Note / Sprite Sheets

Visual Quality improvements

I had to study up on why some sprite sheets result in grainy outputs.

After a couple of days, I made progress.

I had to re-run the video generation so the motion is slightly different, but the quality improvements are significant.

Production Guide

The Developer's Guide to "Safe" Color & Texture

When designing 2D assets for modern displays, especially high-contrast OLEDs, the line between detailed and noisy is thin. Assets that look great as static files can often shimmer or crawl once they are in motion.

To ensure sprites remain crisp and professional, follow these three Safe Color pillars.

01 / Anti-Grain

Consolidate Your Palette

High-frequency noise occurs when too many high-contrast, tiny pixels are packed into a small area.

RuleAvoid salt-and-pepper texturing. Instead of using 10 shades of brown for gritty leather, use 3 or 4 bold shades.

BenefitThis prevents sub-pixel crawl, where tiny details appear to vibrate or flicker as the character moves across the screen's pixel grid.

02 / Silhouette

Implement Container Outlines

Without a defined border, internal textures can bleed into the game world and create a fuzzy silhouette.

RuleUse a consistent 1px or 2px dark outline around the character. It does not need to be pure black.

BenefitA strong silhouette acts as a visual anchor. It contains the internal grit and keeps the character readable against different backgrounds and brightness settings.

03 / Readability

Value Over Detail

In 2D games, readability matters more than realism.

RuleZoom out to 25% or your actual in-game resolution. If the textures read as mud or grain, there is too much micro-detail.

BenefitSimplifying textures into clear blocks of light and shadow, or posterization, keeps the character's form recognizable during fast gameplay.

Summary For Production

Make texture intentional.

AvoidMicro-gradients, tiny high-contrast dots, and soft edges.

Aim ForBold color blocks, intentional highlights, and clean silhouettes.

When assets are Safe, they do not just look good on one monitor. They hold up across displays, brightness settings, and real gameplay motion.
